The International Institute for Conductors is pleased to announce the addition of the Prelude Academy to its catalog of summer conducting workshops and courses. The Institute faculty developed this very special program to serve four traditionally underserved groups of conductors:
- novice conductors searching for an outstanding yet inexpensive first workshop,
- music educators who wish to improve their conducting skills,
- student conductors preparing for graduate conducting study,
- advanced conductors preparing for competitions or professional auditions.
The program has room for up to 12 conductors who will join Maestro Charles Gambetta for 10 days of intensive study, practice and performance on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in historic, scenic Kiato, Greece.
Maestro Gambetta has carefully selected repertoire for each of the three tracks. Novices are encouraged to choose pieces from the Prelude list. Conductors preparing for auditions or competitions are free to choose from any category.

Novice Conductor Track
Maybe you recently took a conducting class, or perhaps you’ve recently started private conducting lessons, and you feel ready to stand in front
of a professional ensemble for the first time. The Novice Track provides
you with a carefully selected repertoire list that will facilitate your technical development while thoughtful, supportive instruction from the faculty corrects physical problems, deepens your musicianship and builds your confidence.
Music Educator Track
After a few years of conducting band or orchestra, music educators often find deficiencies in their conducting that they would like to address. The Music Educator Track will fill those gaps while eliminating unproductive movement habits and refining their conducting practice in a safe, supportive learning environment.
Are you considering graduate conducting study? Perhaps you feel ready
for your first conducting job. The Auditions Track will provide you with opportunities to study and conduct the pieces listed on many audition lists plus additional coaching from the faculty designed to help you successfully navigate the audition process.
Are you considering an application for one or more conducting competitions? Maybe you have already applied. The Competitions Track will arm you with a competitive edge that will greatly increase your chances for success. Study and conduct repertoire you choose under the guidance of the Institute’s veteran faculty and get coaching and “intelligence” that will help you better prepare for the competition environment.
